Why A Foundation?

We needed a systematic and wholly dedicated way in which to receive and disburse funding for medical research and a means by which to concentrate on health issues which will meet the ongoing needs of our Great Danes. Since other sources of funding sometimes offer limited support for breed specific health issues, we feel our Foundation is the answer to making a genuine impact in this area. The Foundation is dedicated to that goal through its endeavors and advocates research and education directly relating to Great Danes.

This is not a new concept. Foundations for breed specific canine health research have been formed by several other breed groups, as well, to assist in working on breed specific fundraising and canine health research and have been very successful.

We believe that one group dedicated solely to the purpose of addressing the health problems of our Danes is the answer, thus the start of the Great Dane Health Foundation of America, Inc.
