Stopping a Dog Fight

As Spring returns to the air you will be going out more and more often with your dog(s). Do you know what to do in the event of a dog fight?
- Never try to separate fighting dogs by grabbing at their heads or collars.
- If your dog is on a leash and another dog approaches that is not leashed, beware! The approaching dog may perceive your leash as a disadvantage for your dog and may be more likely to attack your dog. If you CANNOT avoid the conflict, drop the leash. This will allow your dog the opportunity for a greater range of motion, to run away etc.
- When two dogs are engaged in a full blown fight, both owners should grab their dog's back legs and pull them apart. This keeps you both out of harm's way and doesn't allow for your dog to gain balance or traction.
