Dear Fellow Danites:

The time for our second edition of "Dane News Today" has arrived. We are very excited about our articles and features. I hope that you enjoy them as much as we have enjoyed readying them for publication.

Our regular feature articles are worthwhile, and we also offer both "lick your chops" Recipes and Helpful Hints. Sherry Bosley's introductory article is the "Meeting of the Minds" feature in this issue, and Ask Chief has returned to "Kid's Corner".

Be certain to check our Feature Articles where we have our continuing series on Training and Canine Massage Therapy. We are pleased to offer an ongoing discussion in our series of articles on health screenings with this edition's article on Hip Dysplasia.

Please check out our Educational Library on this web site for our new additions on various health related topics, including our new offering of Public Service Announcements. This feature is a cardiomyopathy study questionnaire that is being conducted at Ohio State University by Dr. Kathryn Meurs. If you have, or have had a Dane that has suffered from cardiomyopathy, your participation in this study is needed. Please read the information provided in order to work toward the goal of healthier Great Danes. (Participants can be assured that all information provided to Dr. Meurs will be confidential.)

Now, I would like to introduce you to an article that I have prepared. The Selection of a Veterinarian. Recently, I was faced with a dilemma that I had never had to face before. In all the years that I have been active in the ownership, breeding and showing of Great Danes, I have always used the same veterinarians. Unfortunately, in the last few years, I have been faced with having to locate new veterinarians. One of the vets that I used passed away, and then the other vets at the new practice I went to sold the practice to all new vets. This led me on a search for new vets. As it happened, after I went through an interviewing process, I found that the new vets in the practice were quite satisfactory. However, it made me pause for thought regarding the many people like myself, who have either relocated or are starting out new to the breed, and may need a little guidance when faced with this problem of selecting a new veterinarian.

I trust that as you read our new edition of "Dane News Today" you will find it interesting and helpful as you journey with us toward our goal of a healthier, long-lived Great Dane breed.

Thank you for joining us again and your continued support!
